THE LAST OF THE SUMMER SUNFLOWERS

The farm stands are offering the last of the sunflowers, and so, from my house to yours, in the closing days of summer, here's a golden bouquet!

Dominique -- I am so sorry for the comment I posted last week regarding your book, "Slow Love..." I am embarrassed and sad that I lashed out at you when I hadn't even finished the book. I guess I was frustrated that you endured "Stroller" for so long, I wanted to shake you. Now that I've finished the book, I'm relieved that you are wise (as I'd hoped you'd be), and I wish you all the happiness in the world -- you seem to have found your way, and are loving the life you've created for yourself. Again, I apologize for my lack of manners. I have never sent anyone such a harsh e-mail before, and I vow never to do it again. Forgive me.

With time to spare to find another Clematis terniflora or two, Dominique.

thank you dominique. the yellow is luscious! our sunflowers are browned and droopy now, but the gold finches don't seem to mind. they are making a happy racket pecking away at the seeds!

Dear Dominique, I'm a fiction writer from Brazil, I live in Rio de Janeiro, and I "discovered" your books through the New York Times and I read them all and enjoyed them very much. I think you're a terrific writer and I'm amazed at how well you made the transition from printed page to blog form. In my own blog, http://anateresajardim.wordpress.com/
(I'm also trying to reach new readers!) I have listed Slow Love as one of my favorites blogs. Anyway Copacabana must be very different from Rhode Island but I just wanted you to know that you have a reader in the other side of the Atlantic. best, Ana

Welcome, Ana, and I am so delighted and amazed that you have found Slow Love! I'm old enough that the wonders of the Internet will NEVER cease to amaze me! I'll look for your blog, too.

To anonymous, who trashed me....that's okay, and I really appreciate your apology. you can only IMAGINE what my poor friends felt, listening to me go on about Stroller Troubles for so many years....! thank goodness I can laugh at it all now....thank you for writing again. d

Hi Dominique, thanks for your gracious reply. When I decided to have a go at creating a blog and seeing what the internet could do to a published writer who wanted to branch out and find new forms of writing and new readers I drew my inspiration from you. I talk about you, your books and Slow Love in my blog and you might at this point have a discreet but vigorous readership in South America... I'd love to translate Slow Love the book into Brazilian-Portuguese but the whole publishing business is taking a deep breath in Brazil (things are confusing at the moment) and I don't possess the energy or contacts to try to get a publishing house interested, but who knows? Meanwhile we have your blog... And it's quite revolutionary what you're doing: injecting quality and content into the internet jungle.
